The Audacity of Joy
In a world that seeks to erase us—we protest, we resist, we dance, we laugh, and we sing.
Given the state of the world, you might ask – is it okay to still have fun? We believe the answer is an unequivocal YES. One quote from the height of the AIDS crisis reads – “we buried our friends in the morning, we protested in the afternoon, and we danced all night.”
It’s the dancing that kept them going. The search for joy moved them forward.
We cannot allow the attacks of our current politicized climate to dominate our thinking. That does not mean we ignore those attacks; instead we must be propelled to action – speaking out against injustices, supporting those in need, and demonstrating inclusive love – all while showing resilience, knowing joy.
